Seidelmann

I looked at one a couple of years ago (30 Siedelman) the one I saw was in poor condition so I didn't buy it, but I can tell you that they are designed to be very fast! VERY wide beam for planning, Im not sure I would want to take one offshore because that hull would beat the hell out of you if it is rough out there. Not very much room below for a thirty footer.

I too looked at a seidelmann shallow draft, pretty nice boat, built in new jersey. The problem is resale, if you buy it you best expect to keep it for a very very long time, they seem to be hard to sell. The other side of that is if the price is right and you do not put alot of money into it I guess it would be okay. The prices of the ones that actually sell seem to be in the low teens. good luck

I crew on a Seidlemann 29.9

I don't think this is the same as the Siedlemann 30 but close enough. First, it is a reasonably robustly built vessel. The only problems experienced are the typical leaks around windows, jib car tracks, etc. that are normal on an older boat. The one I crew on is about 23 years old. It does have a well positioned main sheet that is mounted nicely between mid boom and end boom. The traveler set up and jib winches are also well positioned. The jib tracks are good as well, however, you should use very low profile jib cars (ones that keep the jib sheet low to the deck) for when the cars are well aft you can easily jam the jib sheet on the winches if the sheets come out the jib car blocks at too high a level to the deck. The one I crew on has a shoal draft keel which is a poor choice for this boat as its pointing ability is seriously compromised. You really should get a full keel model. As far as head room goes, you can play basket ball in this particular boat which is more of the crusing version than racing version which I think also has good head room. Bad aspect, is that it may be difficult to sail alone due to its generous sails, however, I am sure it can be rigged for single handling, but will reguire a winch on deck for the main halyard and a good furler for the jib. These boats heel like crazy without any fear of braoching.
