I need a new main sail cover for our 1991 30' Hunter. What is the difference in the 30 and 30T? How can I tell if I need the 30T cover?

T stands for Trunk

The 30T has more of a Trunkated deck vs. the flat deck of the 30. Creates more headroom in the cabin, and some other modifications vs. the 30. The rig should be the same on both boats.

Sails Should Be The Same

Read your hull number and the fourth digit will be a G or T. If you have a 1991 you should have a 30T. Hunter started in 1988 with the 30G and went through a number of modifications before making a major shift to the 30T which significantly changed the cabin top and interior layout. By viewing the pictures under Boat Information you will see examples of both models. Over the years the archives have had numerous posts concerning the "G" and "T" differences. But, I think the rig on 30G and 30T is the same. Roy Mosteller San Diego CA SEA JOY (30T - 1991)

"T" does not stand for "trunk"

I did a lot of research on this a couple of years ago; see the archives under "the mysterious Hunter T" Some say the T stands for trunk, others the cockpit layout, but it actually stands for the change in the serial numbers. The interior is the same, with a few exceptions (batteries and holding tank in difference places, trim package a little nicer). The rig is ALMOST the same. The backstay is a little further aft on the T models. The rest of the measurements are the same. The sailcover should be the same. Check the photos in model section, and you can see the difference in the backstay plainly. I should know, my sailmaker just got it wrong, and had to remove a couple inches from the roach of my new sail because it hung on the back stay...

T = trunk

I also did a lot of research, in 1991 Hunter made both the G model and T model with the T model having and extended trunk. The interior was different as the sink was one with two square sinks on the T and two round ones on the G. Also the storage compartments had pull down doors on the T while the G had the sliding type. One thing I never have been able to understand is why the G model is 1000 pounds lighter.
