Try Dyeing
Dean. Our curtains on our 1988 Catalina 30 appeared to seldom be opened. When we did open them the mild yellow staining/discoloration deep in the pleats raised the concern over replacement. On the ships Chandlery here, it appears a full set looks like $200 or so. You can make your own, but sewing those plastic track insert pieces looks like a challenge. We decided to try dyeing them before tossing them away and that worked well. They are all now a rich deep blue. Those liquid and/or powdered dyes you can buy at the grocery store do a great job if your going from the standard tan/canvas to a darker color or shade. They were easy to do in our washing machine without much mess and gave them new life. Saved us a bunch of $$$$. Let me suggest though if you decide to dye, washing them first in heavy bleach/hot water helped remove much of the yellow discoloration. Hope this helps. DO NOT DRY IN THE DRYER AFTER DYEING. Just hang them up til dry, iron and re-install.RegardsBobAtlanta
