Check your speed vs RPMs with your present prop. Take this and your existing boat/engine/prop information to a propeller shop, and they can tell you the best size and pitch for your boat.

3-bladed prop

Pete, read your reply about the 3-bladed prop. I also have a '77 Cherubini with a 12X12 3 bladed prop and a YSB-12 Yanmar. Wondering about the pitch. I can easily get about 5.5-6 knots under power, but max the prop out at about 2200 RPM. If you have a 3-bladed prop, what pitch? Thanks, -Roland S/V Fraulein II P.S. Have also sailed the Legend 35.5 and, while fast, I don't think it even comes close to the seaworthiness of the Cherubini design.

three blade prop

With 8HP maximum there is not a whole lot of power to work with for a three and a half ton boat. I don't think a three bladed prop is going to give you what you want. Save your money for a replacement diesel with more HP. I had a 12x8 two blade prop, tried a 13x10 ($225) two blade and settled on a 13x7 ($35) two blade as the best compromise for my '79 H27 with SB8. Holding the three props together it is obvious that besides diameter and pitch the overall blade area is very different on all three props. David dkrozier@ti.com

My boat had a 13x8, with the YSB12. I only sailed across Tampa Bay, before I started taking things apart. I am planning on starting with a 14x12, when I install my new 3GM30F. This was the recommendation of Admiralty C&B. They will change the pitch once for free, on a new prop. s/v Nancy Ross '77 H30
