3 Blade Prop for C-30??

I've got a C-30 with a 2 blade 15" prop. I'm wondering what benefits/drawbacks there are for going to a 3 blade 13" prop. Has anyone made the switch? Was the additional drag noticeable? Did motoring performance improve? I just upgraded from a 100% jib to a 150% genoa. I'm wondering if, with the added sail area, I'll be able to get the bigger prop without a lot of sail performance lost. Any opinions??? Allen Schweitzer s/v Drambuie, hull #632

My 3-blade

I have a C30 with a 3blade (can't remember the diameter for certain). The biggest thing I noticed was that prop walk in reverse was dramatically reduced and around 4.5-5-knots, there is a noticable "flutter" that can be felt in the wheel. This is apparently from turbulents flowing around the rudder and has been discussed in the forums previously. The boat also seems to keep it's momentum in choppy water a little better.

Question for David

What year is your boat? Do you know if you have the original rudder? I recently replaced my rudder and I have been told that there was a rudder upgrade that reduces the rudder flutter (say THAT 10 times fast) you're talking about. Just curious.

My boat

My 30 is a 1986 tall rig and I have the 21hp universal and the original rudder. Hope this helps.
