What size 3 blade feathering prop and pitch settings would fit a 2004 H41 with a 56 hp Yanmar?

Depends...

.. I think some will respond with their own specifics, but the size and pitch will vary by manufacturer because of hub diameter, blade shape, etc. Rick D.

Further Info

Hi Mark - As Rick mentioned, different mfg have different specs. It would be best to contact distributors or mfgs of the specific props. For instance, PYI will want to know what the reduction ratio of the transmission is, in addition to engine HP and boat type. Best of luck - the benefits of a feathering prop are many! Enjoy your new H41 - how do you like that couch? Trevor

18"

Hello Mark, Thank you for your note. We are showing that the propeller diameter to be an 18” three blade bored to an 1 ¼” shaft. We have, however, contacted Hunter to ask them what the current diameter and pitch is using with the Yanmar 56, since they upgraded the motor from a Yanmar 50. Most likely the diameter will stay the same. Do you know the reduction gear yet in the transmission? Your information may come quicker then the information from Hunter. My e-mail address is listed below so you can respond directly. kwoody@pyiinc.com Thanks Kevin

1" Shaft?

That's the same diameter as on my H-35 with a 3GM30 and is the minimum diameter I would want to go with with this setup. In fact, to reduce vibration I replaced the bronze (brass?) shaft with stainless steel which is about 33 percent stiffer. Because of the much greater horsepower I'm really surprised that a 1" shaft is used unless the length is really short which doesn't seem to be a realistic possibility on a larger boat. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a fair amount of vibration. If there is a lot of vibration and no way to increase the size of the shaft then maybe a R&B Flexible Coupling, or equivalent, would help reduce vibration.

What prop for a 22' Oday with Atomic Four gas engi

I am purchasing an ODay 22' that has been converted to a water taxi style boat (re: Duffy Electric). Essentially the top has been cut off and the entire cockpit is open. It has an Atomic Four gas engine with a 1" shaft. What prop should I buy to maximize performance and minimize vibration.

Re: O'Day Prop

Call Martec. They (and any prop shop) have tables that will provide the prop sizing. You will have to give them the boat weight, lenght, HP output/RPM. You can shotgun the weight. Rick D>
