I've got 30wt. motor oil in the transmission of my 1980 2QM15. Now that I've bought a Yanmar manual (listened to the boatyard operator before - should have known that was a mistake)I find that I should have automatic transmission fluid. I've used it for two years, no problems - I plan on changing to ATF by just removing 30 wt. and putting in proper amount of ATF - Does anyone think this will cause problems? I'm assuming the small amounts of 30wt. left in transmission will mix ok with the new ATF. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Wonder why the difference?

My Yanmar and H37C documentation is clear. Use the same oil in the engine(2QM20) and the transmission. And I think that I have read that on the Diesel Forum as well. Is the 2QM15 tranny a different manufacturer? You should call Torreson Marine. They were host of the diesel forum for a long time and are Yanmar specialists.
