It looks like I have JUST enough room. Was wondering if anyone has done it, knows someone who did it. It's basically the same dimensions as the newer GM's right? What about my prop? I think the current 2 blade is 13x8, what should I use for an engine with double the power and a lower final drive? Final drive of the Renault is 3:1, I'm fuzzy on the Yanmar, the manual lists two, 2.83:1 and 2.14:1. Also RPM is lower, so it washes out I think.

It should fit but I wonder about your "same size" comment. I had a 2QM20 originally, same size as the 2QM15. It was larger and significantly heavier than the 3YM30 that I installed. I think the dimensions are on the web. I know that I have them at home in a notebook(or are they on the boat in Florida?).

Repowering a '77 h27

I have seen a Cherubini h27 with a 2 cylinder Yanmar. Overpowered in my estimation.

We have repowered to a like-new 1 GM10 with a Campbell Sailor prop over the past few years, and that combo will push us at hull speed with ease in flat water. We were able to make 5.5 knots at 2400 to 2700 RPM every day on our recent 550 nm voyage from Sandusky to Mackinaw City. Only one day for a couple of hours in the Detour Channel did a 20 knot headwind and fierce chop slow us down to 4.5 knots. And we will be able to get more power in that situation when we retune our prop this winter.

I have the opportunity to get a good running 2qm for my Renault and a small amount of cash, so a 1gm isn't an option. BTW, I'm going to be in the Sandusky area this weekend

I'm just curious why you're scrapping the Renault? With the right prop I seem to recall my old 1980 went pretty well with the little Renault bugger...and I could start it with a rope in a pinch!. Of course it chugged like the African Queen, but other boats with 2 cyl Yanmars seem to chug just as much. It seems to me if you want a smoother ride you'll need to go gas or 3 cyl diesel. I've converted a few lawn tractors recently... last one being an 18 hp Brigs to Honda gas engines and the Honda engines really impress me. Dont know if there is a suitable marine unit but something to think about.
