Would someone explain how to use a 2nd set of reef points? I have a single line reef that I love. I loosen the main, tighten the reef line, done! If you have two reef points would you have a 2nd reefing line or rethread the first line? Just how does it work? Thanks, Jack

Usually .....

..... you have a second/separate line for the second, etc. reef. When you need the second reef its usually best to use a 'jiffy' set-up instead of a single line reefing system ... so that you can vary the amount of outhaul tension on the second reef; the outhaul control needed for the amount of how much draft in the sail that you want/need. Single line reefing doesnt allow much 'draft' control.

Jiffy Reefing

Is usually for the 1st reef, which can be done with boom hanging out. 2nd reef is usually done with short ropes manually, with boom over cockpit so it can be reached. If it is windy I generaly double reef at landing, then if it's not too windy I untie out to 1st reef which is also tied in. I don't worry much about draft if I think I need double reef. I forgot, but what type boat and mast do you have again. I have a Pearson with an Isomast. Do you have a single line for each reef point or just one line that attaches to both points... Thanks!
