I found that my Yanmar 2gmf diesel engine developed an oil leak from under the tie down stud/nut on the front right side of the facing fuel pump ( straight up from the main crank shaft pulley). Looking at the maintenance manual there doesn't appear to be a gasket at the point where the fuel pump attaches to the block. Just a "shim". Has any one else experienced this leak point and what was the cause or exent of the repair? Just prior to noticing this leak I found that I didn' have the power that I'd normall feel at 2000 rpm. My props are a little encrusted(was planning to go over the side to scrape 'em) but I was baby-ing the throttle level not to over load or cause too much vibration. Thanks Jim

there is a gasket...

that holds the fuel pump to the engine block. Also there are a few o rings on parts of the little fuel pump that can leak motor oil. My fuel pump has worked loose a few times over the years. Good luck.

The second thing to check, after tightening the

fasteners of the leaky part, is to make sure the crankcase vent hose at the intake manifold is clear. It fits onto a bung in the manifold. The bung could be closed with crud and thereby allowing the crankcase to increase its' operating pressure and forcing oil past gaskets and seals. Whew, that was a mouthful. *pop

....and use some Locktite

Jim: When you make the repair, be sure to use a little of the proper Locktite on the threads. This makes the repair a little more bullet proof. Be sure that you use the proper product for the job. Some of the Locktite products are permanent.

thanks+

Thanks for the responses- maybe this is just a clean up and tighten the nuts type situation. My maintenance manual doesn't show any gasket other than a "shim". Yes I'll try some loctite red too. Jim
