It was just a question for Benny. He is only about 100 miles north, but he is in a big city. I did a google search. lots of sellers , no prices. Called Camping World in Ft Myers, couple of others including the local Honda dealer They said $1000 or better.
I'm in Bradenton if that matters. Most won't/don't advertize prices on the internet - you have to call. The advantage being no tax/no shipping. Good luck on the search - it's a great little machine.

Not to worry, I have a thick skin. I just felt we weren't helping whatisname that started the thread. You know that people went around the world with kerosene lanterns and sextants, and never worried about "House Banks". but they are all out of sailing now. Today we are addicted to tV, games, weather, chartplotters and refrigeration. That requires house banks and recharging of same

We chartered a multihull in the 80's with a small portable generator and I hated it. Ed Schenk says he puts his in the anchor locker on his sister ship and it is bearable. It is also 30 years later, and hopefully a quieter generator than what I experienced.

Don actually did us a favor, whether he intended to or not. Wise Sales who I din't see in the first few pages of my Google search has Hondas EU 2000's at $889 and they take Paypal. The Admiral and I have several thousand E-bay experiences and we have never had a problem that paypal couln't solve.

RPM

For charging from the engine alternator, I would think that somewhere around 12 to 1500 should do the trick. I don't think the no load effects on the engine will be greatly effected at this engine speed. Possibly moreso at a higher RPM. The alternator should be putting out all the batteries will accept at this RPM, unless they are drawn down below 50%.

The stock Yanmar Hitachi 35 A alternator will develop about 24+/- amps, hot rated, at 3000 RPM alternator shaft speed which is about 1200 RPM engine speed assuming a 2.5:1 pulley ratio. This alt develops the full rated hot output of about 33 amps at 5400 alt shaft speed. You don't gain all that much by running it faster..

24 amps is less than a 1hp load on the engine..

Has anyone seen or heard anything about the Sunforce 12-volt 400-watt wind Generater there on sale for $500.00. I was thinking that this and a solar panel would work for me.

It would be best to start a new thread.

I hear you about the toys! But a battery "monitor" can be a voltmeter and two ammeters (one going in, one going out), about $30 each. DEFINITELY worth the money! The 3-stage charger can pay for itself in a few years by extending battery life, but I admit I don't have one on my "new" boat (but I DO have a very efficient fridge and a solar panel - on sunny days the panel will keep up with my draw, so I can stay on the hook indefinitely) I bought the panel for $200 about 20 years ago.

A voltmeter and two ammeters do not equal a good battery monitor. A battery monitor does not require user attention the way the three separate meters would. It can track the aggregate input and output without user intervention and report it instantly. Considering the Victron is about $175, or only $90 more than the three separate meters in total, it would probably be foolish for most to not spend the extra $90 to get all the additional features the battery monitor provides.
