I saw where they recommend use of a cog v belt for Yanmar engines as a replacement. Does anyone have a make/model # for a cog belt for a Yanmar 2GM20F. Thanks in Advance Granfallon (Hunter 310)

Just take your old belt to an auto parts store

Tell them what you want and they'll get it for you. Joe S

Yanmar v-belts

I also own a 310 Hunter with a 2GM20F. Replaced both belts last year, primary with a cog belt. My best advice is to have the old belts measured and/or with you when you buy and make sure your getting metric rather than english belts, the width to depth are different and important. Additionally, before removeing your belts check the fit on the pullies, they should fill the groove and be flush with the edge of the pulley.

Yanmar belts .....

The sheeves on a Yanmar are pressed mild steel that are VERY subject to rust formation and roughening of the sheeve faces. If you are having 'problems' keeping a belt tight or are wearing out belts relatively quickly on a Yanmar .... pull the sheeves and have them 'dressed' back to smoothe or simply replace them. Yanmar sheeves dont stay smooth very long, and the pitted roughened Vee surfaces are 'hell' on belts. :)

Cog belt? what's that ?

My belt is original. Taper and smooth. SO what is Cog Belt and why is it better to the stock ones from Yanmar ?

Ok found out

what cog belt is. Its a v-belt with teeth like stub on inner side for gripping the pulley.

Belts...

A few years ago, I routtinely replaced both my Yanmar 2GM20F alternator and water pump belts with Yanmar belts thinking they would be the "best" for this engine. After only a few hours use, I just happened to notice that the Yanmar water pump belt had a cut in it and probably would not last through another hour of use. The pulleys were not the culprit here. A poorly made belt was. I heeded the recommendation of a poster on the Hunter 28.5 site to switch to Gates Belts. While a bit more expensive, you can see immediately that they are far superior products to the one's Yanmar sells.
