I, unfortunately, go to work for extended periods of time and therefore I'm away from the boat long enough to warrant using the procedure for cold starting where you open the compression levers, crank her over about ten times, close the levers and start her up. It's been working just fine, but this last time I did it one of the levers would not stay open. Of course, I didn't find this out until I went below to close the levers before firing her up. When I went down below I noticed one opened and one closed and there was a faint "burnt" smell. Does anyone know what I may be doing incorrectly and/or has anyone else experienced this? I'm afraid that burnt smell may point to some damage I've done...any ideas? I can no longer "feel" the lever "notch" into place when I attempt to open it. Thanks in advance. Aubrey, GusBus II

Most Unusual ................

............. cannot imagine why the unloader does not "click" into position now but I cannot see this causing a problem. It is not usually required to unload the engine for a pre lube roll over without starting. As for leaving one of the unloaders closed, I can't see it causing any problems although I wouldn't do it as a rule as it "may" cause problems due to uneven loading in the cold rolling over. The burnt smell ............. I would suspect is just coincidence as I don't see how the two would be connected. Regards, s/v Island Hunter

Seldom use them

The only time I unload the compression is if I am trying to bleed air before the injectors. Looks like you may have to contact a yanmar shop to ask about the latching problem. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

cold start

Up here in frigid Michigan I just advance the throttle 1/2 and then crank her, and back it down after as soon as she fires. Works every time.

Thanks...

...guess it's not even necessary, and I have turned her over without opening them and she does fire right up, it's just suggested in the manual that if you're away for over 30 days to use this starting procedure. Think I'll just use the 1/2 throttle method that's workin' like a charm up in Michigan. Thanks y'all!
