Hello all, I have a 29.5 who tends to sit down in the water at the stern such that the rub rail is almost all under water. I am in the process of removing accumulated junk off the boat and will then redistribute as much weight forward as possible. I am also about to install a 12000 btu Mermaid air conditioner under the v-berth which may help a little also for overall balance. Firstly, has anyone any suggetsions having come across the same problem, but secondly has anyone ever relocated the batteries forward from their original location (starboard stern lazarrette)to aid balancing the boat and get the stern a little more out of the water? Can it be doen without too much hassle? Fair winds. Neil

Not your fault

The 29.5 was poorly designed in that the rub rail gets submerged. They corrected the situation on the 320, but the blowback of the exhaust is worst on the stern. I suggest you leave the battery bank where it is, since the wiring is pretty snug inside the boat from there. One way to diminish weight is to keep the waste tank empty and the fuel tank low, but the latter could lead to condensation in the tank. Enjoy the boat, the defects are few, and the sail plan is terrific. Don't look back.

I also advise against moving the batteries, very tight fit already. You could always get a very Large anchor or lots of beer (kegs of beer) and keep them in the V. Just kidding of course. Even with the low stern, the 29.5 sailed fast and well. We routine passed much larger and higher rated boats. That full roach mainsail made her a speed deamon.

SHIPPY...MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART

could not agree more with the beer!!!!!! Seriously tho, I thought as much although I do not want the condensation in the tank issue to have to deal with. My little girl sails pretty quick, and I just had a new main made with a little less roach than the big ass original so I can sail happily to 20 knots without having to reef.... but the boat wants to round up much less than with the big old main 'cos she was a little twitchy as I understand 29.5's are. I am going to fill up the water tank and move everything else I can forward around the new ac unit. All being said, I love my boat. Neil
