I am thinking about seting my 28.5 up for a trip to Bermuda. Is the 28.5 strong enough for the trip. If not can it be made so and how. What do ya think. I know much smaller boat have made the trip. I think most of it comes down to the people on the boat. But a good boat is a good start.

28.5 - good coastal cruiser

i owned a h31, a big brother of the 28.5 for 5 years....it was a fine coastal cruiser...i don't believe it or the 28.5 was designed or intended for extended bluewater passages...if the conditions are light and with the proper equipment and preparation, a bermuda passage certainly could be done...but i wouldn't go in a boat that wasn't intended for that use...bob s/v reliance

just ask Roger

Scott: Roger Mummah just did this in November and returned in May. He has some journals posted on this web site (check out Hunters Cruising). He would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Steve, I believe Roger's trip was to the Bahamas, not Bermuda. While the trip across does include a crossing of the Gulfstream (and I don't mean to denigrate that), this is not in the league of a 600 mile trek (14 hours, or thereabout vs. 5-6 days). Can it be done, probably with the correct preparation and an ideal weather window. But I would suggest caution. Paul Bednarzyk S/V Knot Again
