I believe it is 1/4"
Jeffrey, I owned a 86 28.5 from 91 to 98 and I seem to remember that the diameter of the forestay was 1/4". Call the 800 number at Hunter Marine and Greg should be able to tell you. You might check their site and email him. Good Luck
