28.5 Diesel Smell

I recently purchased a 1985, 28.5 Hunter and the diesel smell inside the boat is horrendous. I haven't discovered any leaks in the engine compartment or fuel lines. Several years ago a buddy had a 1987, 28.5 and he never found the source of smell. It was affectionately referred to it as the, "Hunter Smell". I know this has to be a recurring theme with this model. Has anyone discovered the source of the problem?thanks,

Try this

The deisel could have spilled from a dozen sources, notably by human error. Find all five drains and pour baking soda into them. Then pour boiling water to wash them down into the bilge. It does a surprisingly quick and effective cleaning.

Bill...5 drains??

Hi Bill,Can you be more specific about the 5 drains? I'm not sure I know of 5 drains that empty into the bilge.Thanks,
