I have to repair a lot of superficial scratch damage from hurricane Juan on the upper part of the hull of my 272LE. The hull colour is light gray. There seem to be two ways to go: (1)WEST SYSTEM suggests deepening the scratches (very difficult when there are many of them curved in all directions -- so maybe the shallowest scratches will have to be sanded down), then filling the rest with gelcoat and finally coating the entire area with a matched tinted gelcoat, thinned and sprayed in several layers -- difficult to match and difficult to spray without expensive equipment. (2)The simpler alternative would seem to be to fill scratches as suggested with untinted gelcoat and then to brush on INTERLUX Brightside polyurathane using their Seattle Gray or Dusk Gray (with proper prep. of course). Q.1: Has anyone done this kind of job? If so what method was used? Any helpful hints? Does this paint sag when brushed on? Q.2: Anyone know of a better paint match than either of the Brightside grays? Q.3: Would mixing the two grays get me nearer to the 272LE hull colour?
