Looking to find a replacement Mast Gate Cover for my 1988 272 LE. All that is on the mast is two rivets that look like it held a gate at one time. Label on boom is Z. Diffusion, Inc. in Bristol RI (Out of Business). I'm using a Thumb screw but need to remove to allow the sail guides up and down on each sail. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Z spar extrusions & parts carried by Rig-Rite, Inc. Z-1756 for your part, I believe.
Other manufacturers make products called "sail stop" that slide into mast groove and tighten with thumbscrew. West Marine carries some made by Davis.
Easy to make the z-spar type with a hardware item called "tile stop," but requires drilling and tapping, if you are so inclined.

my zspar 272 mast does not have these ...I'm going out this afternoon though and will check...they look like rivets on the exterior holding something inside the mast..Pat
your picture looks exactly like the set-up for the part number I gave. I've sold a ton of Z-spar masts and would be surprised if yours uses something different. Let me know, though. Always ready to learn something I didn't know.
I will look into all of the suggestions and get back with you. I think the part number for the Z-Spar is the best option without recreating the wheel. Thanks again.
Pat, these devices close off the opening in your sail slot where you inset sail slugs. The slugs can then slide all the way down to the boom without popping out, and hoist the sail without feeding slugs in. They do nothing for bolt rope mains.
If you don't a have a mast gate to close off the slug opening, you'd need a sail stop to block the bottom of the slot, just above the opening. Despite my admonitions to always keep ahold of my sail stop, sure enough one day it loosened and popped out just as I touched it. You can guess how many bounces it took until it was 40' feet down at the bottom of the lake.
