My 272 has some kind of eye installed on the front of the mast at the level of the spreaders, and also a kind of inverted U-bolt on the foredeck. I have seen these on other, and especially bigger, boats -- for instance on a Beneteau 42, where they are used to install a second forestay and, in the case of the Beneteau, a furled storm sail. Has any 272 owner had experience of this? If so, is it worth installing a second stay, or is it better to clear the deck of a hazard that one will never use (after all the furling genoa can be reefed).
