I am considering purchase of a 2000 26X with the 50 HP Suzuki 4 stroke EFI. One Owner's review recommended against Suzuki. Please respond with any information concerning this engine either good or bad. Thanks.

Just Got
Just took delivery of my 26X and Johnson 50, (same as Suzuki)on Sat. I chose the Johnson only because of the white color. Seems to go with the boat a little better. Took it out on San Francisco Bay Sat Morning. Seems to perform well. I was out on the dealers demo boat which has the same engine except with the Suzuki covers a couple of months ago and this one performs the same. No speed demon but good enough. Was surprised that they will come up on plane wiht the balast tank full. Can't tell you anything about long term yet. I would like to hear about long term reports myself.

Lets see....I bought a Schwinn bicycle because I desired an American made product. While cleaning it one day I found that disappointing Made In China sticker! Now you mention that Your Johnson is really a Suzuki? My Nissan outboard is really a Tohatsu, which is identical in the smallest piece to the Mercury outboard! The only differences are the paint jobs and the prices! Harley/Davidson uses Japanese parts. The Ford Ranger is really a Nissan in disguise because of the running gear. Isn't anything made in this country anymore?? See you on the Bay during the Parade of Ships and the air show.

Sometimes "Made In America" actually means "Assembled In America". I see you are from Lake Tahoe. I live in Manteca and plan to spend considerable time there next summer with my 26X. What can you tell me about sailing on the Lake? I went for a Demo with Michael Tolda from Sailing Ventures a few months ago and my wife and I were sold on sailing there. Ended up buying the 26X instead of the Catalina 250 partially because of the price but also the size of the cabin. I,m a pretty big guy and the 26X fits better that anything else this size. I would appreciate hearing from you at bennett959@attbi.com. I was thinking about coming out for Fleet Week on Sunday but not sure I am ready for "The Bay" yet. We Are going to New Melones Res. to try to get used to the boat. Ben

Launch from the Coast Guard Station ramp.
Hi Ben, The only good boat ramp to launch from is at the north shore of Lake Tahoe at the Coast Guard Station. Price: $10 per day use. It is connected to the campground there. You can spend the night on the water and not worry about your parked vehicle and trailer. The other possibility is on the east shore at Cave Rock, but you have to be out of there before dark. All other launches are private, expensive, and as of now...too shallow. In the Bay Area, the absolute best launch is at the Berkeley Marina. Easy access, a deep and long concrete launch ramp, and directly open to the Bay. They also have the best dry storage for 23 foot and under sized boats. Larger boats have a long waiting list, that's why I towed my 25 back to the Reno area. In sailing around the lake, there are at least six other 26X's anchored there, all on the west side of the lake. Install a fish finder or depth finder as there are numerous shallow areas near various shorelines. The underwater geography is that of an old volcano. That should give you some idea of what the bottom is like.

Mine is Great!
I got my 26X with Suzuki 50 EFI in May. It's been a great performer ever since. I got a 6 year warranty with mine, but my decision was based partially on the dealer's recommendation and partly because I like fuel injected engines much better than carborated. Make sure you have a good fuel filter in the line from the tank to the motor. My dealer installed a spin-on attached to the side wall just under the seat that lifts-up. -Mike-

Just Got Update
Had my boat out on New Melones Res. this past weeken for the day. No wind so we just motored around for about 5 hours. Varied between 2000 and 5000 rpm. Used just over 4 gallons of fuel. I am very pleased with that. Very quiet and smoothe. I think I like it. Ben
