I intend to buy a 26X in 2007. What is the standard size of the trailer tires? Has anybody tried a larger size for a safety margin? Are radials available? Are the tires tubeless? Which models have proven capable of long distances at highway speeds, which have failed? Thanks for your help, I would like to prevent trouble by putting up some money.

Whatever you buy be sure they are TRAILER tires. I also suggest you replace with the same size as the original. Novelman

X trailer tires

OEM tires were specialty trailer, bias ply type at 205/75-14, load range C. They were marginal for use with an normally loaded X. I replaced mine with Goodyear Marathon specialty trailer radial type at size 215/75-14, load range C, which increased load capacity to 1870 lbs per wheel, thereby a greater margin of safety, since my loaded X normally weighs in at 3600 lbs. No modifications to fenders were necessary. The radials run cooler, ride softer, track truer. They will wear better on a long trip than any bias ply tire. Regardless of how much tread is left, if a trailer tire is more than seven years old, replace it any speed over 20 mph is anticipated.

15" rims/tires on an X trailer

i've heard of one X'er replacing his 14" rims/Titan tires with 15" rims and Goodyear marathons Load "D" tires. i can't recall the circumference, but i believe that he tried to keep it within spec so that it maintained clearance & didn't rub the fenders.
