I am a new owner of a 1994 MacGregor 26D. It is in excellent condition exceptthat the tiller attachment to the rudder post has an undesirable amount of slack, making steering difficult. This is my first sailboat, first boat, in fact, and I have no idea how to begin to fix this. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Ron,Bottom line- Both are great boats. If you can afford $35k, buy an M. If you have $15k, get an X. If you have $5K, get a D or S. All of the Mac's offer lots of sailing and a great deal, plus they trailer well.
There is no wrong answer - - - depends upon what you can afford. The M (and there are SOME available used) with the rotating mast and other newer features is easiest to single hand, especially if lines are led aft and it has lazy jacks. Just buy what you can afford and have a great time learning to sail - - - won't take long in ANY Mac!Rick
Thanks for showing us that picture!Sorry - My water skiing picture did not upload correctly....I have a 70 HP Suzuki with a high thrust prop. What a great motor for the M. Amazingly quiet and yet very powerful. When the wind dies down....and we bring out the skis & tube.... even with a full crew I don't have any problems pulling an adult skier.
