I am planning to buy a MacGregor soon. Can anyone tell me the difference between a 26D and a 26S? What does the D and S stand for? wsucougar

d = daggerboard; s = swing keel (centerboard)

The dagger board pushes down into position and is locked in position (i'm pretty sure...)the swing centerboard can kick back if it hits bottom. I have heard that the d is slightly faster. The d is an older model than the s.

Also,..

The d has a stern hung rudder, and the s rudder is a through hull at the stern. The daggerboard on a D is held in place by it's weight and is water ballasted also. Both are good boats. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1181843

Lamar, watch antenna

Nice pics! I had a boat just like yours. Sails great. In one of the pictures it looks like your VHF antenna is threaded through the ladder. You might hurt the antenna or radio this way. Just don't transmit with it this way. Who knows, it might help reception.

Nope, must be the back stay

Nope, I have a mast top antenna. It might be the pic. where Mrs. Nancy is steering and the ladder lays against the backstay? I guess if it was on the ladder I could lower the ladder and talk to dolphins. :) Seems to be alot of those boats around lately. (Tourist Dolphin Stalkers)

Talking to the Dolphins would then make you a Dolphin Whisperer, right? :) steve P.

Correction to my Also post

I wrote the daggerboard is held in place by it's weight. The truth is, the daggerboard line holds the daggerboard in place, and keeps it from falling out the bottom of the daggerboard trunk. The daggerboard line raises and lowers the daggerboard which is pulled down by it's weight. The statement: "both are good boats" I still stand by. :)
