My brand new 260 is in the water now with engine while awaiting the rest of the commisioning (instruments, instr. pod, bimini, etc). I was wanting to know where the waterline shoudl fall on the stern. Right now, the engine makes it lean significantly to starboard and it also seems to be significantly weighted to stern. They still have to put the rest of the rigging (boom and fulred head sail) on as well - maybe this will balance her out? Thanks, Darren

Tanks, batteries?

My H26 (predecessor to H260) has batteries on the port side to balance the motor. Some of these boats have the head holding tank portside for the same reason. I doubt the boom will make much difference, since it's not very far forward, and roller furling gear doesn't weigh very much. I've also seen freshwater tanks in the locker under the V-berth in some models. That would help with fore-and-aft balance.

It will straighten out

Darren. Once you get everything on board the boat will settle down. Don't forget you have the water tank in the vberth and that will help. Drawbacks are the battery and motor are on the port side, but once you are moving it doesn't seem to affect anything. Picture is of our H260 and you can see where the water is in relation to the strip. Sitting pretty well in the water. Enjoy the H260 you will have lots of fun. Jim S/V Java

starboard list

Our H260 (w/ 9.9 honda 4-stroke) leans ~1 inch toward starboard and the bottom of the stern rubrail sits just out of the water in the middle when sitting at the slip. The added weight of the water in the v-berth tank, as well as anchor and chain in the anchor locker will likely even out your fore and aft balance. As mentioned, moving the starboard battery to the port side should help the starboard/port balance. I haven't done this yet, but will probably do it while on the hard this spring. As someone else mentioned, none of this really matters much while sailing (unless you are a hardcore racer). But, if you keep the boat in the water for the season, you will have to scrub the growth harder and more often above the waterline on the starboard side unless you have the bottom paint extend up higher on the sides.

Listing

I concur with Al's comments. My new 260, when fully rigged, definately has a significant list to starboard when sitting in the slip. 4 stroke mercury is a big heavy beast.

Starboard List

I have the same list on my H260. I attribute it to the four cycle Honda 9.9 and the battery being on the same starboard side. An interesting point to note is that when your companionway sliding roof/hatch begins to leak in a heavy rain, it will leak on the starboard side over the sink and starboard seat cushions. You may want to prepare for this and put your companion way cover on order. I am currently in the process of re-locating my batteries to the port side where my holding tank was to partially correct this problem. Good Luck, Bob.

More concerned about...

I am more concerned about the aft bottom rub rail sitting right on waterline. I plan on adding a second battery anyway, so I hope that will balance it out a it more starbaord / port. The bottom paint seems to cover and starboard list that it has right now. I guess I will wait and see how she lays up once the fresh water tank is filled and anchor is on board. Thanks, Darren

Balance

I ordered my H260 with a Merc 9.9 Bigfoot engine and dual batteries, which were both installed on the starboard side. I have the same problem with a starboard list you and others do. I don't think the boat's designers realized that the heavier four-stroke engines would be so popular. I plan to move both batteries to the port side as soon as possible. Happy sailing. Ralph C. Cockpit table

I looked at a 2002 Hunter 260 before I bought my 1996 H26. The 2002 model had the cockpit table mounted in the indent under the V-berth but the post for the table was in the cockpit locker. On the H26 the post stores under the table.
