Has anyone modified the table in their 260/26 to make for more room? What/how did you do it, short of removing it? Convert it to a drop leaf with a saw and a piano hinge? Any ideas? What are the pros and cons? Just thinking of spring projects.... Thanks. Tom M.

See the Archives

Hi, There have been discussions on this in the past and you would probably find interesting material in the forum archive. I leave my table turned forward (long portion toward the Vee berth) 95% of the time to make more room mid cabin. Fair winds... Tom

Drop Leaf

Yup -- I converted the port side of my table to drop leaf. I used a chalk line, saw and hinges. Also put a sliding board under it to support it in the up position. It works just fine, and makes going forward belowdecks a lot easier!

Vote For Forward Position

As Tom of Boston commented, I too leave the table in the forward position and gain a lot of "permanent" cabin floor space. Even turned forward, one can still sit four around the table. This position still gives room to go forward to the V-berth if needed.

Harvey, how did you

deal with that plastic trim around the edge? Just glue it real good? I assume that when the leaf is dropped that you cannot have the table spun around as suggested. I too usually leave the table spun around to allow for more floor space but may also go for the drop leaf option in addition. Spun around or not, it's a pain to get to the stuff in the V-berth. Thanks. Tom M.

Up and out of the Way

Tom, I read a posting a year ago that recommended lifting the table to the ceiling. They used the same pin that supports the table now in a new hole drilled in the appropriate location. You must be careful drilling the hole in order to avoid the centerboard uphaul line. Also file any burrs that are left. I have tried the table temporarily in this location holding it with a quick clamp and its amazing how it opens up the cabin. I'm going to do mine this spring. Good Luck! "Festivity" 1996 H26

Just glue it!

Yup, I just glued it back, probably with carpenters glue. Eventually I'm going to laminate some old charts and maybe some foreign coins on the table top using some "Build 50" acrylic from the hardware store. You've probably seen the effect on old hatch covers used for tables at seafood restaurants.

Thanks Jeff....

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing that. I'm going to look into that solution as well. Now all I have to do is decide... Thanks to all. Tom M.

up scope

I have a 96 H26 and the previous owner drilled a hole at a higher point so the table can be pushed up out of the way and it works great. The same pin is used to stow it in this position. I would highly recomend it. Just be very careful of your centerboard line inside when drilling. Dave Oberholtzer Hydrotherapy
