Advice on fitting spinnaker needed. Some say that no pole is better. If so what type of sail? No back stay????????

Asymetrical

Peter, I have a 270, which is the same as the 260, and just went through the whole ordeal. Basically our boats are set up to add the asymetrical easily. You can order the exact size in your choice of colors for a good price on this website. The rigging I ordered from Hunter, but you could do it yourself. All the holes are there, no drilling required.

What's the difference

The symmetrical spinnaker is equal in all dimensions and flies directly off the bow, requiring spinnaker pole to balance the act back at the mast. It's difficult to rig, prone to error and an all-around fun-killer. The asymmetrical is slightly off center in its construction but flies like a big genoa off to one side or the other. It's easy to rig with a chute, requires no pole, and doesn't need a backstay because the head is attached at the top of the mast. There is plenty about these in the Archives, and I would suggest you ride with someone who has each setup to apprciate the difference. This is the most fun you will have on the boat with your clothes on.
