Wife and I are looking to buy a used 260. We looked at a new one, but we don't like the fact that the table in the salon doesn't convert into a bed. Doe earlier models? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think the 1999-2000 table dropped

I remember see the table drop at the Annapolis Boat Show. I think it was in 1999 or 2000. The edge of the seats was molded to support the edge of the table. Markdb

Have you really tried the aft bunk?

Kelli and I, while not as nimble as a few yrs ago, still find our 2004 H260 aft bunk excessivly roomy and nice and comfy. The salon is large for daysailing and will sleep our crew/guests. The fwd bunk(?) I save for my mother in-law(luckily she hasn't accepted the offer yet) or kids. The 260 is no 30-40footer but mostly we're daysailing as a team with the occasional day guests. We live in Sarasota and love the boat for its shallow draft and portability in storm season and trailer often to explore new lakes/rivers/bays. It's a great coastal cruiser without being too unmanagebly large to single hand or trailer. Traded up from a 2000 H240 and consider our 260 a great all around design for my specific needs. Good luck in your search. I agree with George that newer is proably better and choose carefully. Also, if a trailer is important make sure you buy a boat that has one. I didn't and have quite a tale regarding that oversight. It's all good now. Aloha. Michael and Kelli

Tables...

...on the 260 keel (A.K.A 270 latter model years) did drop down to form a bunk OR swing like the water ballasted versions to make a larger upper V berth. The 260 WB have a shallower sole so they don't drop all the way down due to the cone like support under the table. The cabin mold for the setees though, still has the notch sooooooooo, if one gets rid of the oversized support and engineers a new one thennnnnnnnnnnnnnn...you can make a lower berth. On the 26, there is no notch and I never measured to see if the table overlaps. It also does not fully go down unless the owner engineers a different support. alan

Spin it 180 degrees and...

place the forward seat settee seat cushion atop the table matching the outside curve against the v-berth mattress. Then stick a throwable floating boat seat cushion (like the orange safety one that came with our boat) on the table between the mast support pole and the settee cushion inner curve to keep it all in place. We do this all the time and sleep two forward. The settee cushion becomes the head and shoulder support area. Works great. Thanks to Larry P. for this idea!
