1 -3 no problem
We sail a 240 and have hauled her to lake Michigan and Lake Erie. She handles 1 -3 waves quite easily. In light wind you'll be bobbing around like a cork in a toilet but with good sailing wind some waves make me feel very nautical.

Try 18' swells with 4-5 foot waves on top. Did it with ease but no sails up cos the wind was howling.

Its a sailboat so you sail it. Haven't done the 18' swells but my wife and I tried the 4-5' waves in the Chesapeake Bathtub (short periods). The longshafted outboard was of no use until we were in more protected water. The jib and reefed main moved us along but it was a beating. Markdb

I think the question should be how does any 26ft/5000lb displacement boat sail in 1-3 foot waves? These conditions are not a problem for this size boat. Can be a lot of fun if you are dressed right. Otherwise it could be wet, cold and miserable. Life is an adventure. There is no bad weather, just bad clothing.

Im moving up from a 20' powerboat and anything over 2' is bad, Ive come in the break wall in 3 footers once or twice and its wasnt pretty

I was out on Tuesday in 2-4 with heavy chop (massive line of T-Storms passing overhead). Had doused the sails 20 min before storms hit. I turned on the autopilot, went down below and put the hatch boards in. The boat handled the waves and chop well and would occasionally have the motor rev up after coming up out of the water... but was still comfortable and still made head-way to St. Augustine.

Yes the motor
does come out of the water every now and then but steady sready is the way to go (2-3 knots in those conditions) and you can get there safe. Sailing in 3-4 foot waves quite OK.
