I just obtained possession of a 1999 260. On the rudder assembly there are 2 pins of different size. One is the rudder lockup pin but I can't seem to figure out the intended usage of the smaller pin. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

260 rudders

There have been lots of complaining about the design of the rudders on the 260's. I think they come from the factory with no pins at all-my dealer put mine in. I drilled a second hole at the base to raise it up, which I have to do to get it into my slip. Probably the previous owner put your second pin in. Scott S/V Hello Dolly

Pins

Description is vague. There are two pins that come from the factory which are generally attached to the top plate holding the rudder housing. The thick one is for locking the rudder up while trailering and the other is a long skinny one that ties the mast carrier in place. If any others, then you need to ask the prior owner as it was installed by the owner. On the new Hunters now leaving the factory, there is a third pin for locking down the rudder while sailing. It is made of maleron plastic and is designed to break away if you run aground. Crazy Dave Condon

Dave, maleron plastic pins?

Do you know if Hunter will sell or send these pins out to owners of older models so that we can install them as well??
