26' water ballast

I am new to sailing and am interested in the difficulties I might encounter with a 1987 26' mac with a water ballast, beachable hull with a drop centerboard. I've been told that the shallow keel Boats can be difficult to sail in strong upwind conditions. Any help???

gentelmen never sail to weather

I suppose a deep draft lead boat will go to weather better than my mac. Yes, it get's weather helm when I do if i don't reef or fall off the wind some. I sailed catamarans for ten years and they didn't like it either, but I could still blow by any monohull going to weather. what i do if i don't want to go to weather is tack or jive. give a little take a little. have fun and follow your gut instint.
