Still checking out trailerable odays. Sounds like the 27 is a little much to casually launch. Is the 26 trailerable? and what are the differences in the two boats? (25 vs 26)headroom, sailing traits, mast raising, ect. thanks for all the info you oday owners have given me so far. Both the 25 and 26 seem like great boats from afar, just trying to get some real owner info, thanks, mike

25 vs. 26
The 26 was only available for a few years, from the mid '80s to the demise of O'day around 1989. I think it is safe to say that the 25 evolved into the 26 and that the two boats have much more in common than differences. Since the 25 was built for almost 10 years, consequently there are far more of them on the used market. A 26 in nice shape will probably run about $10K, you may be able to find a good 25 for half that amount. Personally, I think 25/26 ft is still on the large side for frequent trailer-sailing, but they are road-legal with their 8 ft. beam. These boats are not light however - towing one is a job for a full-size pickup.

Joe, thanks for the info. you oday owners are very helpfull. my friend has a mcgregor 25and its nice, but the odays seem to have a lot more quality. If there is not that much difference between the 25 and the 26 but the 26 cost 2x, well the choice seems easy. anyone sailed a crysler 26? can you compair this to a oday 25? thanks mike

O'Day 25 is a winner
The quality on the Mac is much less than the O'Day, but that's one of the reasons it would make a better trailer-sailor. It's much lighter everywhere, including the rig. If you are going to leave it in the water for the season, you won't find a more versatile boat than the O'Day 25. I hope to keep mine forever.

I love my 25...
We looked at a lot of trailerable sailboat before we selected our 1979 Oday 25. We looked at Mac and a couple of others. When everyone speaks of quality, it doesn't mean that the Macs are of low quality, it is that the Oday's are beefier. From the layup to to rig, Odays are just that much more strong. We trailer our boat everytime that we use it. We now keep her on the trailer at a marina that has a great ramp, so we can be in the water in a few minutes. This is really nice and convenient, but considerably more expensive than keeping her mast down in a storage lot. Ross in Tampa 1979 Oday 25 "Lola"
