I recently bought a 1984 widgeon sailboat. It is in really good condition and has been well cared for. I received all the manuals and paper work for the boat. My question is the boat is white and the gel coat is in good condition the graphics (blue) have a little wear but in great shape, but I would like to change the color to blue. Would this change affect the value of the boat? is this boat any more valuable than any other standard widgeon? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks

At this time, there is really no extra value to the 25th anniversary O'DAY models, as far as I know........ so, I wouldn't say don't paint the boat. However, be sure to properly prepare the hull for paint before applying a new finish! Most important is to remove ALL traces of dirt and wax from the surface! Follow the paint manufacturer's advice and procedures to the letter, and be sure to use all components from the same paint "system" to avoid problems. Different brands and even different paint systems from the same maker are not always compatable.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't think this boat is any more valuable than any other but, like any other hobby, there are purists and sometimes they like to recommend to keep it as original as possible. This is my first sailboat and I was looking for a winter project until I tripped over this one. It needs nothing more than a little compound and some wax, but the best part is I didn't pay a lot for it. I am a wooden boat guy and this is the stepping stone that may get me to look for another wooden boat to work on. (I rebuilt two lobster boats when I was younger) But I need to learn how to sail this one first. Thanks!
