25 Oday questions

I am in the process of restoring a 25 oday and have several questions. The first being there is an electrical panel on the starboard side of the cockpit wiich consists of 2 12v sockets wirh a push button switch in the middle. Was this standard equipment and, if so, what was it used for? The second question is there is a water leak coming through my starboard mainsail winch and I can not for the life of me figure how to access the mounting bolts. Any help you guys can give me on these items would be greatly appreciated.

Chris -

There should be an access "hole" for the winch - I have an '78 25 - and there is a round access hole with a screw in the middle - this is in the cabin going through what I call the tube - the bunk area on the starboard side underneath the cockpit seat - it attaches to a piece of wood the holds the round fiberglass cover piece in place - then you put your skinny arm through there and use touch to find the nuts - and then tighten -

My 12V pannel has a series of I believe 4 swithces - interior lights - running lights and mast ligtht - and then for accessories -

I believe that the boat info channel for the 25 has a schematic you could use -

That electrical panel was not standard, if you could post a picture we might be able to figure it's possible use. I'm baffled by your reference to the "starboard mainsail winch", the halyard winch for the 25 (optional) was mounted on the mast and leaking doesn't seem like a problem. Do you mean the starboard Jib/Genoa winch? That would be mounted on the top of the cockpit coaming and access would be from underneath, my guess would be through the cockpit seat locker. You may have to crawl in and reach up (any willing youngsters available?) with a socket wrench.

Rudy At D&R Marine should know the solution if it is the standard jib/genoa winch.

If your boat has a winch on the cabin top for the main halyard, that would most likely be owner-added and I'd look for an access cut into the cabin overhead.

Yes, it is the Jib/Genoa winch. Thanks for the info, I found the bolts, unfortunately, I dont have a skinny arm and I dont think I can coerce my wife to clilinb down there. Oh well, I'll work something out- Again thanks.

Chris, if yours is like mine it would be a straight shot. Have you thought about a deep well socket and some extensions?
