25 oday centerboard pin fit

Fellow ODayers,
Dropped my centerboard yesterday to replace pin and inspect. Trying my hand at glass work for the first time. I have a new pin from Rudy and it's really loose inside the hole. Any suggestions to tighten it up? I thought about some west epoxy with filler but done know how to make it round unless I fill it up and drill a new hole. Thanks in advance. Ed,
Fill and drill is probably the best method. Maybe you can check McMaster Carr for a tube/pipe that has an appropriate ID for your pin and you can drill the hole oversize for the OD?

How loose is it? I'd be inclined to leave it go. I replaced my pin and it wasn't a tight fit at all, but maybe yours is way looser than mine was. Got a picture of it?

Another good thing might be pvc pipe and epoxy this in. Other wise fill and drill is only other thing. Could call Rudy and ask how much play there should be. Let us know as this is on next years list for me. I know my pendant line is frayed. Also how did you get your boat so you could pull the pin. And how far does the centerboard have to drop to get the pin out? Greg

Thanks for the good feedback. It's not too loose so I spread some resin into the hole to see if it will tighten up, I'm doing some fiberglass work on the leading edge from bottom hunting. Worst case i can sand it down. I'll let you know how it goes. Didn't do a full fill of the hole. I like the PVC pipe idea but with the uhmw plastic of the pin I think that the pvc now becomes the wear point. For reference it only takes the width of the board to remove it. 16 inches under the keel is good. Weird thing was that my line which was wire spliced to double braid was fine but the shackle pin was missing. No telling how long it was hanging there but damage was minimal. My concern over Rudy's new line is that the splice is too big to fit through the lanyard hawsepipe. How do you know if there's a break at the shackle? Course I never knew that the pin was missing either so what's the difference?

Thin epoxy inside the hole was enough to tighten the pin up. I put the new pin through the hole before the resin cured fully and it was able to round out the flat sport. Board goes back in tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
