New question for you... Noticed I am in desperate need, sorry... Original specs show 40 foot 3/8 (approx) Main Halyard... Currently boat has cable/cord outfit... Can one run with the 3/8" braid entirely? Or should I go with what it is running now? Will the sheave at the mast head run 3/8? Thanks again in advance!

Wire Halyards
Greetings, I can't speak for the 25, but on my 37, the wire halyards have dug channels into the sheaves, and I understand that these grooves will eat the rope halyards I have on there now. A friend of mine, who is has extensive offshore cruising experience and is presently building a 43 ft. boat, will not have wire halyards on his boat. If you really need the low stretch of wire for racing, etc., I think you can get some exotic rope materials which offer the strength, but won't mess up the sheaves. Regards, Bob

25 Main Halyard
When I bought my Y-25 (third owner), it still had the combo rope/wire halyards. During a haulout, about 8 years ago, I replaced this with a rope halyard. The new synthetic lines they have minimal stretch and work better than the line/wire halyard. I had the boat yard staff check out the sheve at the top of the mast. As long as you keep the new line the same diameter as the old line, there should be no problem with it fitting. You will have to climb the mast to check if the sheve has grooves wor in it. I do not think relacing a sheve is a big deal.

Sheave replacement
Greetings, The sheaves on the 37 were almost identical to the ones you can get a Fisheries, but the shaft, which was trashed, was a 12 mm. shaft and the new sheaves are made for 1/2 inch. I lucked out and got a deal on a carbide .5005 in. reamer, which I used to expand the hole in the stainless collar at the top of the mast. Let me know if you need to use it. Regards, Bob

However, I (or someone a bit smaller than I) will be going up the mast in the next couple of months. If it looks worn, I will probably take you up on your offer for the reamer.
