I am replacing my 1978 evinrude 9.9 this season. I would like to buy a four stroke motor. My question is Mercury makes a 9.9 4-stroke EXLH sail power Big Foot motor that has a extra long shaft 25". However the motor weights 138 pounds dry compared to my previous motor that weight 95 pounds. I would rather have a 25" shaft instead of my previous 20" shaft. However, quite often the prop comes out of the water in medium size waves, Although, I have an hydraulic motor lift that lowers the motor but it specifies motors no larger than a 15 horses. also even with my old motor my boat, when docked, leans to the port side. I have tryed to counter the weight, but I only end up adding more weight to the boat. If anyone has any information about these questions I sure would appreciate It.

o/b selection

If you are purchasing a new O/B go with the 2002 Honda 9.9 4 stroke XLS shaft. It has the needed slow speed thrust, a shaft that will keep the prop in the water, and weighs less than the other manufacturers of same HP. If you can find a 2000 or 2001 8HP HOnda XLS (25") shaft, it weighs even less. http://www.catalina25-250.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=956
