25.5 hull has a flat spot(s)

This summer I purchased a 1984 Hunter 25.5. It was on the hard and I noticed the hull was slightly flattened at the port aft jack stand (or corner post of a 4 post cradle - the original cradle). I checked inside the boat and didn't see any damage. I splashed the boat and enjoyed the summer with no problems. Last week I had her hauled out for winter storage and noticed that now both aft posts have flatten the hull. Is anyone else having this "flattening" of the hull in the area of the aft supports of the cradle? Could this be because the fin keel isn't raised high enough on the cradle stand? Or should the 4 (or just the aft 2) posts be lowered slightly? Is the glass in this area too thin? I'm going to talk to the marina owner this week and wanted to have some input before meeting with him. Thanks everyone. Bob :)

25.5 flattening

I own a 25.5 that is wintered on a trailer with 6 pads in support. I have not noticed and flattening of the hull. You may have too much weight on the pads. They are essentially to hold the boat upright and level. They provide little vertical lift. Most of the weight should be supported by the keel. I would lower the pads to remove the flattening and adjust front and back to get the orientation that provides the cockpit drainage you want. The keel should be able to supply the vertical support needed. Too much of the support on the pads could easily cause damage and it is appropriate to express concerns.

How is the cradle used?

The cradle pads should NOT be used to support the boat. The boat should stand on the keel and the cradle pads should only keep it upright. If there is flattening, its stand to reason that the pads are holding up the aft part of the boat.

Thanks everyone

I talked to the marina owner and he adjusted the keel by raising it up (put another board under it) and also lowered the two aft posts. Problem solved. I still have a slight dent in the port side but that's from it not being fixed before I owned her. Apparently, she's going to need that fixed. It doesn't seem critical to sailing but I'll have to get it fixed. Thanks again for this learning experience. Your input was well received. Bob :)
