240 starboard list

my oday 240 is equipped with a honda 9.9 extra longshaft and electric start. It list to starboard even before the water tank is full and the cooler has been loaded.Has anyone else experienced this problem? and if so what are the solutions to balancing the hull?

Heavy motor?

The guy I bought my 192 from had a Honda 8hp on it. He knew it was too big for the 192 but had bought the motor for a 25-footer that he also owned. It definitely made the boat list to one side. It took both of us to lift it off the transom mount, I'd estimate it weighed close to 100 lbs. I would expect the 9.9 to weigh even more. I like everything else about the new four-stroke motor - quiet, clean running, no premix, easy on gas - except how much heavier they are than their two-stroke predecessors.

The iron jenny could stand to lose a few pounds.

yes I do think the motor is to heavy,however it is a great motor and it came with the boat. Also it seems to be the size most owners have on their 240.So Im assuming their boats list also.Is this something I should learn to live with or is their a creative way to balance the hull other than replacing motor?...Thanks for your input.

Heavy motor

I recently replaced the old honda 8hp two-stroke with an 8hp four stroke. And yes, it is heavier. I found myself really struggling to lift the adjustable height transom mount. Next time I was swimming with some kids off the stern I looked up and found that three of the four springs on the Garelick motor mount were broken. No, you can't order springs from garelick, but the new mount is in the garage and waiting for a round toit. Since I have noticed some flexing in the transom material, I will be strengthening the mount with 1-1/4" by 1/8" angle iron located to spread the weight across the entire height of the transom. I will photo document the process if any one wants pics later.

No problems here...

My 240 is equipped with a two-stroke, Evenrude 9.9 longshaft with electric start. I seem to have no problems with it listing to Starboard. I do not fill my freshwater tank, and keep a minimally filled cooler. I keep a 6 gallon fuel tank in the port, aft compartment. I keep no extra gear on board, so I'm not sure why I'm not having the same problem, but I'm thankful I'm not. Christian
