240 Mast

I splashed my new 240 for the first time and got it to the dock without incident! When comparing it with the other boats on the dock it looks as if I have about 3 - 5" of rake or maybe prebend in the mast. I called the dealer and was told this is normal and proper on a 240. He stated that it was in part a result of the no backstay rigging. It is not that I don't trust him, but is it normal and proper?Bill SieberS/V Tsunami

Yes this is normal,you can check the archives on this site.You should however check your rigging after two or three days of sailing because the new shrouds will stretch.Ray has posted a detailed proceedure for doing this. -Carl-

Bill, Carl is right about your rig. If you are

new to sailing then you have chosen a beautiful starting point. In the smaller boat archives on this site is a write up, done in the last 3 months, about mast and rig tuning for the H240, 260, 26's and most Hunter water ballasted sailboats. It might be a good idea to print it out and store in your new owners manual as you will certianly use it later. It explains rig tuning and its effect on the boat.Go forth and enjoy.RayS/V Speedy.
