I've just bought my first sail boat and realize I have a lot more to learn than I first thought - but having great fun learning! So making allowances for what may appear to be a silly question, does anybody know of storage lockers / cabinets you can buy (or make) for the 240? I love the boat but get tired of the clutter in the cabin after a weekend sailing.

Thanks for your suggestion Tom. I tried to download the photo and also e-mail the author of the article both without success. Any suggestions on how I can contact the author or get a picture would be appreciated.

Some help

I have the photo and dimensions somewhere; but I'll have to do a search. The cabinet is one of the first additions I made to my 240 and it's been one of the best. If you can find it in the archives, e-mail me @ mcooper@dallas.net If nothing else, I'll take some pictures and measurements this weekend.

More help

Richard, I looked in the small boat forum archives and pulled up this old message on the dimensions. The cabinet is 16" high, 16" wide and 19" deep. Those dimensions are pretty crucial. The top rail is available from Home Depot and only covers the front of the cabinet and the side facing the sink. Do not put railing on the other two sides. After mounting the railing, cut about 3/4" to 1" off the top- most rail of the railing so the cabinet will fit snug against the cabin bulkheads (looks custom). Frame the front of the cabin with 1 1/2" moulding and the door is 15" X 15". If you're gifted with wood, you can make a nice door, I'm sure; but I went to the kitchen cabinet area of Home Depot and bought 15" vanity doors. They have a variety of patterns to choose from and come in either wood grain or white. The only downside is you have to buy two doors, but the price of $26.00 for both is pretty reasonable. I put adjustable brackets inside so I could change the shelf height up or down- which added about 10 bucks to the price. At the time, I was hoping to squeeze two shelves inside; but it didn't seem to work out. Looks great with one, though. Also, if you go to the photo forum and search for the word cabinet, you'll find the picture by Tom Adams. If not, e-mail me and I'll e it back to you.

Special Thanks to Tom Adams

It was his design and idea. I am just perpetuating a great idea. Hunter ought to look into this and incorporate it on their future 240s.

Laundry Baskets

We found that keeping most of our stuff in laudry baskets helps to cut down on the clutter and makes it easy lug on and off of the boat. When it is time to go to sleep they go out in the cockpit. The porti pottie goes out there too, We learned that one morning at 0230 when my daughter insisted she had to go.
