Anyone tried to re route the lines coming out of the boom (topping lift, outhaul, and reefing) to the cabin top? Current configuration is not very convenient for short handed sailing. The step to the top of the cabin top is pretty big, especially if the wind is picking up. Nathan

reef line

since I have a CDI/jib and have a cleat on the mast for cleating off the red jib halyard when raising the mast I have freed one cleat on deck which I use for the reefing line. Still have to go up to attach to the horn (maybe jiffy reef it one day, lots of pullies and line on deck). I eliminated the toplifting pully etc by tying a 8" line on the boom end with a loop on it and hook the loop onto a clip I put on the nylon coated toplifting line. When dropping the sails boom only dropping 8" or so and once I release the vang just clip the hook into the end on the boom saddle. Does not save much but won't slip and I do not like the boom end cleats etc. Thanks to who ever posted this Idea on how quite a while ago :)

You can add blocks, cleats of various kinds to include clam cleats to the boom to route those items to the back. For the topping lift, add an eye to one side with a turning block on the other and a cleat forward of the turning block. Run the line from the eye to a block on the topping lift and back down to the turning block and tie at the cleat. You can do a single line reef system using addl. blocks and hardware on the boom to the rear. Very rarely you will adjust the out haul but suggest you contact a sailboat rigger to help you or a good marine store or someone who khows what they are doing that is close to you.
