23 mast raising

My wife and I are unable to lift the 23's mast from front or rear by ourselfs Is there a mast raising system or some advise on how we cound lift the mast. I saw some earlier replys to the same question, but they were limited is scope. There was a mast raising system sold an an option for the 25. I really need help in this area. The marina that we use is trying to eliminate all or most of the small boat slips, so trailerins looks like the only alternative or sell the boat... I am on the owners list for a more direct contact.

Mast Raising

Go to the More Fun section of this site. Under ODay brochures is a PDF file of the mast raising system for the 25. I have tried this and it worked great. Using this system two people can raise or lower a mast very easily.

Mast lowering/raising

Jack, I have an O'day 23 and last year developed a way to lower the mast - I will be raising the mast in the next few weeks and will try the reverse. Mast raising

How are you trying to do it? My 19 has the same length mast (according to stats) and I can raise it by myself, although I must admit it is much more interesting, challenging and a wonderful opportunity to explore new areas of our relationship, such as communication skills shared goals and mutual trust to do so with the assistance of my beloved. My method: attach backstay and shrouds with mast hanging aft, insert one mast base pin for pivot, raise partially, brace with something- a "stiff leg"-in the cockpit, go to foredeck and pull it up with the asecured jib halyard, cleat off halyard for safety and attach forestay, insert second base pin, adjust tension, sail.
