23 compass leak

I have a 23 with a compass that started to leak . the inner housing is caulked where it sets in the fiberglass, the inner compass part will slide in and out . It appears to be leaking where the two join. Is there a gasket or something that has rotted or am I missing something . It has not leaked in the past , is it to be caulked ? I posted this by mistake at the ask hunter owner forum so for those of you who read both I apologize , Mike Bacome

Leak

I just removed my old compass and replaced it with a new one. Neither had a gasket. I make a bead of caulk around all contact areas, and screw holes. I tightened it only a little. I haven't had any leaks. Hope this helps.

I don't think so, The numbers were so faded I could hold a course. The whole boat was leaking so bad that it was hard to tell. I sealed the rub rail,deck fittings, and the compass replacement. Since then no leaks.
