helloI am going to replace the main halyard on my 23.5 . The boat has rf so other than mast raising what function does the jib halyard normally serve . First time with anything other than a hanked on jib . Thanks Mike
Jess, I thought the rf had an internal halyard ? Mikehello
the jib halyard raises and keeps your jib raised and tight on the roller furling... with out it, you cannot raise your jib or genoa on the RF...
sincerely
Jess
I recently purchased this boat that had been sitting for a few years . It is hard to tell on some things what needs replaced and what is just dirty from sitting . I had planned to replace the mail halyard and a long list of other things . Centerboard line, rudder line rf lines etc . I an trying to decide what has to be done this year and what can wait . I would never completely remove the jib halyard just drying to decide if it can wait until later .Thanks everyone for their input .Are you considering not replacing the jib halyard with a new one, or removing it completely?
I use my jib halyard for the obvious reasons (raising the jib, or the mast) but I have also used it for connecting something to a high point. When we go scalloping, I will bring a solar camp shower. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but the 5gal black plastic bag that has a shower nozzle on the bottom that heats in the sun. The jib halyard is great to hoist it overhead to wash off after swimming in the gulf. I've also used it to hang other things such as laundry, lanterns, and decorations. Yes, most of it isn't mission critical, but that line has come in handy a number of times.
