Hello, I have a Hunter 23.5 with a rip in the mast at the spreaders. It is a vertical rip in the metal parallel to the sail groove. I don't know how it happened but just noticed it while I was getting it ready for the sailing season.

I am going to attach pictures.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Can it be repaired? Should I get a new mast? Can anyone direct me to an expert in this sort of thing?

Thank you for your time. Lynnie

I am guessing that it had a tarp on over winter and took a heavy snow/ice load at some point. A good welder could put it back together, maybe adding a plate along side. There was someone on here a couple of months ago parting out a 23.5, another mast may be available.

Here is the link to the mast manufacturer. You can probably order a new mast, and use your original foot, head,, and spreader attachments. They could probably also tell you if yours is repairable.

I'm parting out my poor 1993 H23.5 due to hull damage that is uneconomical to repair. I still have the mast and it is in great shape. Always a "northern" (limited season) freshwater boat. Feel free to contact me at sdwoolfrey@juno.com to discuss if you would like.
