Only reason I ask is tha I use three point connectio...just like the manual; one to chaine plate on transom, top to backstay to mast and of course third one to main sheet. Neat system. When sheeting in or lotsa wind, the triangle puts more tension on forestay\furler.

I was never really happy with that sheeting arrangement. Some guys seem to be happy with it. It probably has it's advantages other than sail performance. For instance, it may provide that needed space for a Bimini Top. I've found that my boat points much higher with the Harken Traveler that I have on there right now.

I liked the traveler I had on my Cal25, which was close to the cabin. This really allowed me to bleed off extra heel without having the main go baggy. I can't say that I ever noticed it helping the boat point though. I guess technically I could (and did) use the traveler to get the boom down tight and closer to the center line by pulling the traveler to the opposite side.

Quick Update on the loose back stay.... I started the rig tuning over from scratch, having previously worked from the base of the previous owner. Loosened all stays and shrouds and re-did the tuning by the book. The back-stay is OK now. I think the problem stemmed from the upper shrouds being too tight and restricting mast movement along the bow to stern axis. The turnbuckle still has no room left for tightening but the overall rig is fine. Many thanks for all the thoughtful assistance.

That's great. I'm happy that it worked out for you. You must have picked up some slack in your backstay somehow. Either the stay wire stretched, the chainplate moved up, or the mast head fitting moved. There should be a cup washer under the swaged ball fitting at the top of the mast depending on the make of your mast.
