Going over the boat, '82 222 replacing the standing rig. Little confused. Which hole is the forestay? (Go easy )

What are the eyes in the forestay chainplate used for?

How does the original furler setup work? I'd prefer to go with a hank on jib.

The rear hole is for a hanked on Jib. One of the two forward holes if for the Fore Stay. Choose one. The large loop behind is for the Roller Furling System. Happy sailing.

Roller furling is the intent of the provided furling jib . Reefing is NOT the intention. So the jib is either in or out. Sailed a lot on the Chesapeake Bay and rivers. Lots of big air days for a 100% jib. I sometimes use a 110% jib; but heavy weather helm results. The 100% is mostly used. Furling is preferred otherwise a down-haul is required.

My 84 has the smaller fractional rig, so I may if anything want for a bigger Genoa, otherwise may drop the jib altogether instead of furling in. I do have a plastic furling drum somewhere I may end up finding how to piece back together. Thanks for the info.

Most of these O'Days have fractional rigs, as mine is. If you're sailing on the Chesapeake, a large Genoa will be good in July and August. But the best sailing months, May, June, September and October are fairly breezy; and the weather helm will be too great for a large Genoa. I feel a 110% Genoa would be good for cruising. Mine is a North cruising sail that was made in Sri Lanka and is beautifully crafted. You won't get that kind of sail locally. Seems there are lot of drums around and no top swivels.
