22 to catalina island

Has anyone sailed their 22 to catalina island? I would like to sail over there in november or december but we are a little uptight about making the journey. Mostly because we often sail with our 2 yr old and our little baby. Any advice and is anyone going over around that time? Do any of the fleets sail over there? And are there any books on crusing the island?Geoff Atkinson

Hi Geoff,The winter months can sometimes be unpredictable for Sailing 26 miles to Catalina, but there is a Catalina Dealer at Dana Point Calif. that can give you all the info I think you are looking for. I have sailed in a Cat 22 to Catalina but it was late spring and no childern. Needless to say, The Santa Barbara Channel weather can turn very quickly in the winter and you could be looking at an adventure you wouldn't really want to put your family through.Sailing over with another sailboat certainly is a smart way to go.
