thoughts on trip from california to hawaii. yes i'm experienced. wondering about the boat.

I wouldn't do it with that small of a boat but that's me. It's a daysailor. Not much room for provisions, berthing, fuel etc

Some smaller boats have made it; and smaller boats have failed. I think its more a question of comfort and abilities on your part. Sailing 6000 miles is no small task but normally the boats seem to outlive their owners.

With a ballast to displacement ratio of 26%, and a capsize screen of 2.1, the O'Day 22 was clearly designed as a coastal cruiser, and not to take care of you on an extended ocean voyage.

I would choose another design if I were planning that trip.

Whatever the design, the trip would probably also need substantial investments in boat equipment, systems, and skipper training to be ready for the cruise.
